Turkey Sends Food Aid to Displaced Communities in Nigeria
The shipment, delivered as part of a coordinated initiative with the UN, was distributed at the Malkohi camp for internally displaced persons located near Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.
Many residents of the camp were forced to flee their homes due to violence linked to the Boko Haram group and continue to endure harsh living conditions.
Officials, including Türkiye’s ambassador to Abuja, representatives from Adamawa’s humanitarian affairs office, members of Nigeria’s emergency management agency, and local authorities, were present during the aid distribution event.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Mehmet Poroy highlighted Türkiye’s prominent role in global humanitarian support, stating: “These aid efforts aim to alleviate, even to a small extent, the hardships faced by people struggling to survive under difficult conditions.”
He also noted that Türkiye has consistently extended assistance to Nigeria over the years and continues to support efforts addressing ongoing security issues.
A representative from Nigeria’s emergency management agency in Adamawa expressed appreciation for the support, emphasizing the importance of the supplies delivered by AFAD for those residing in the camp.
